It is our pleasure to extend you this warm invitation to attend the 15th Conference of Commonwealth Statisticians scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India during 7th to 10th Feb. 2011. The venue for the conference is “Vigyan Bhawan” on the inaugural day i.e. 7th February 2011 and Hotel Le-Meridian, New Delhi from 8th February 2011 onwards.
The Conference is expected to be attended by Heads/Sr. Officials of National Statistical Offices of Commonwealth Countries, Representatives of International/ Regional Organisations, International Experts, NGOs, Heads of Various Statistical Offices at national and regional level and universities/reputed institutions in India. Thus, this Conference will provide an opportunity to be part of the Commonwealth Statisticians community.
The overall purpose of the conference is to enhance commitment to share experience and information, promote continuous dialogue, develop collaborative networking, building trust, infrastructure strengthening and improvement of the statistical systems among the Commonwealth countries. In addition, endeavour to make the Commonwealth Statistician’s Group a tangible entity and identification of areas for future collaboration.
Though the commonwealth countries differ in size, socio-economic status, culture etc., the statistical challenges being faced by most of the developing countries because of growing and diversifying stakeholders, enhanced demand of reliable and accessible official statistics and due to advancement in ‘Information Technology’ are more or less similar in nature. So this conference will be a unique opportunity to assist in the capacity building measures of developing Commonwealth Countries by fostering and encouraging a friendly interactive environment. It will also explore the barriers, constraints and possible solutions for meeting the enhanced demand including in the new emerging areas of official statistics ensuring quality and timeliness to the diversifying stakeholders.
Keeping in view the overall purpose of the conference, the theme/sub-themes of the conference have been decided based upon the consultation held with various member countries and other stakeholders. The schedule of the conference has also been devised to ensure maximum involvement and contribution of each country and other participants. (Day Wise Program)
As a part of invitation, we would like you to nominate at least two representatives from your Country to participate in the forthcoming conference. The participants should preferably include the Head of the NSO. However, due to funds constraint, the funds will be made available only to one participant each from Low/Lower-Middle Income Group Countries. The funding will cover the cost of the round-trip airfare on a direct flight at the most economical fare from your place to New Delhi and DSA as entitled.
The success of the conference depends upon presentation of quality papers and discussion thereon so as to identify the issues of concern to all with possible solution by drawing a comprehensive plan of action. Accordingly, kindly contribute atleast one county specific paper inter alia covering (a) Nature of the issue in country-context (b) Areas of concern (i) conceptual (ii) Data (c) Approaches applied/contemplated and (d) Suggestions for consideration by the conference on one of the themes/sub-themes. The papers may be sent to the respective chairpersons for their consideration for circulation/ presentation in the Conference. (Theme & Sub-Themes)
We are confident that this Conference will bring us together to share values of Commonwealth Countries , their experience in the field of Statistics and chalk out the future vision of the Commonwealth Statisticians. Accordingly an exclusive session especially on “Vision for conference of Commonwealth Statisticians” has been kept on the last day of the conference, which would be attended only by the commonwealth member countries. I take this opportunity to request you to kindly send your views on this theme including the possible venue for the next conference. The same may be considered for circulating among the member countries.
